Oil on canvas representing a deer hunt. The painting, which has the artist's signature at the bottom right, is in an excellent state of preservation, and it is fitted with an antique golden frame. Its dimensions are 73x98cm.
The painting shows the progress of an energetic and successful deer hunt in a wild nature, made dear by the warm colors. The hunter, dogs, and the quarry are involved in one action seizing the magic moment of capture. On the whole, the quality of the painting is considerable, the dog and the deer in the middle are rendered with an impressive skill. The quality and subject of the painting, which is not repetitive, dates it, in our opinion, around the 1730s, when De Caro worked for the aristocracy and the new Bourbon court that had settled in Naples from 1734. |
